In 1978, an amusement park opened in Vernon, NJ that would change history forever. This place, buried in the woods on the grounds of an old ski resort, was called Action Park.
It was one of the first modern American water parks, its slogan being "Where You're the Center of the Action" and "There's Nothing in the World Like Action Park".
Action Park's popularity went hand-in-hand with a reputation for poorly designed rides, under-trained staff, intoxicated guests, and a poor safety record. Personal injury lawsuits eventually led to the closure of the park in 1996.
Despite this, Action Park is not remembered for its casualties. It is remembered for and by the kids that grew up with it. It is seen as a place where the 'popular and brave' teens hung out. The burns and bruises were a rite of passage for its former guests.
And, like our brand, it represents living life to the fullest; taking risks; having fun. Because there truly is nothing in the world like Action Park.
